What is Your Web? (digg)
With the help of a little bit of javascript fun , this tool will help pipe your bookmarks between a few popular mediums.
Input:
- Browser bookmarks file
- Yahoo! MyWeb
Output:
- Browser bookmarks file
- del.icio.us
- Google Bookmarks
Alternatives
- If you would like to export from Google Bookmarks, please check out the bookmarklet from my blog.
- Also, if you want to clear out Google Bookmarks (Your Web is not up to snuff), take a look at the bookmarklet here.
- While I'm at it, here's a simpler way to import from del.icio.us to Google bookmarks.
Apologies for the alternative overload! I should unify all of this.
For the Google fans...
Note: As of 20070616, I've finally gotten around to migrating the functionality of my del.icio.us-to-Google bookmarks bookmarklet. Things should be more reliable along this front. If you have visited before, please ensure that you are using the latest version (full refresh).
This service will help you import your bookmarks into Google Bookmarks. All that you will need is a browser-friendly bookmarks file. This is a common format, and it is likely that many online bookmarking services already support this approach.
Off the top of my head, the following do:
For Yahoo! users...
As some of you may have figured out the hard way, Yahoo!'s My Web leaves much to be desired when it comes to exporting bookmarks that you've painstakingly contributed. This tool, with the help of Yahoo!'s API, conveniently makes extraction a reality.
Caveats
Please note the following before continuing:
- This service comes with NO WARRANTY and is provided AS IS. It works for me, and I hope it works for you. Before continuing, you must agree not to hold me liable for any damages that may arise from its use. (Trust me. I don't want anything to happen, but I've got to cover my back!)
- I've only tested this under Firefox!
I hope that some people find this useful, so please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.

First, we must gather your URLs. At the moment, I can either use a browser-exported bookmarks file or extract them from Yahoo!'s MyWeb. Do note that some online bookmarking services will export your data into the common browser format. These should work under the first option.
Out of respect for your privacy, your Yahoo! ID is NOT communicated to me. All transactions in this step are between Yahoo! and your own computer.
Please cut and paste the contents of your bookmarks file below.
Okay! We've grabbed all of your URLs. Now, you may export them to a Netscape/IE/Mozilla-compatible bookmarks file, and/or we can transfer them automatically to an alternate bookmarking service. If you would like to view the bookmarks, please choose "Export."
Before we begin transferring entities, we must take care of a few things.
- First, ensure that you've logged into Google. Click here (opens a new window) to open Google Bookmarks' "Add a bookmark" page if you would like to check.
- The current approach to importing to Google bookmarks involves pushing bookmarks in groups of 75. When you click "Begin," a window will pop up with the first group of 75; there, you can select, using Google's interface, the bookmarks that you wish to keep. If more remain, an alert box will notify you of the running tally, and the "Begin" button below will change to say "Continue". Clicking this will continue the process. Repeat as necessary. The button will say "Done" when the process is complete.
- Click "Begin."
In the following, you might see a dialog requesting login credentials for del.icio.us. This originates from the destination host and NOT this one. Your authentication data does not venture near this server.
Because of del.icio.us' access rules, bookmarks are added with a time delay.
Success! In case you wish to view/export the bookmarks, click below.
